EMIR ICGOREN HELMSMAN

Having started sailing in 1996, he is an experienced yacht racer who has competed actively in both one-design and offshore classes. He has represented Türkiye in numerous international regattas, developing high-level competitive expertise in start strategy, boat handling, and crew management. As a Board Member of the Turkish Offshore Racing Club (TAYK), he actively contributes to the development of sailing in Türkiye.

Throughout his racing career, he has competed professionally across a wide range of classes. He has taken active roles in Melges 24, Melges 32, Farr 40, TP52, Archambault 35, J/70, J/80, and J/99 fleets, successfully serving as helmsman, tactician, and trimmer. This broad class experience has provided comprehensive expertise in wind reading, speed optimization, boat balance, close-quarters starting, and tactical decision-making.

He has played a key role in the development of one-design sailing in Türkiye and led the establishment of the Turkish J/70 Class Association in 2016, spearheading the growth of the class nationwide. With five Turkish Championship titles in the J/70 class, he is recognized as one of Türkiye’s most successful J/70 sailors. He has been actively involved in shaping class organization, setting standards, and increasing international visibility.

Today, as the helmsman of the Ameera JET team, he continues to deliver strong performances in both national and international regattas, leading his team in race preparation, crew coordination, technical trim settings, and post-race analysis. His career vision is to elevate one-design classes in Türkiye to international standards and to build a sustainable, podium-focused racing program with Ameera JET in European series.
