BATU ÖZONUR HELMSMAN - TACTICIAN
Batu Özonur was born on September 11, 2002. He graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University with a degree in Physiotherapy in 2025. Thanks to his family's sailing background, he was introduced to sailing at a very young age.
He began his sailing career in 2008 in Istanbul in the Optimist class, and over the years competed in Open Bic, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, 470, and J/70 classes, gaining experience across different disciplines. In 2011, he moved to Bodrum and continued his sailing journey there.
In 2015, his performance in the Optimist class earned him his first National Team selection. In 2018, he moved to the ILCA 4 class and represented Turkey in European and World Championships as a national team sailor for two seasons.
In his first season in ILCA 4, he became the Turkish Champion and achieved 7th place at the World Championship. In his second season, due to an injury, he missed domestic competitions but continued competing internationally for Turkey.
In 2020, he competed in the ILCA 6 class, achieving 3rd place in the Youth Turkish Championship. He then started an Olympic campaign in the 470 class, finishing 2nd nationally and attending national team camps.
Later, Batu focused on keelboat sailing and began competing in the J/70 class. He has taken on helmsman and tactician roles, achieving top positions and podium finishes in Turkey’s J/70 Corinthian league and cup events. He gained significant experience in team organization, race strategy, and tactical management.
Batu Özonur continues his coaching activities at Marmara Sailing Club and actively competes as helmsman and tactician on the MAYK J/70 team.
